Chrome has managed to blend form and function by giving you easy access to just about everything you want instant access to, and on the other hand by staying minimal and clean in appearance. With Chrome's Web Store, you have access to a whole plethora of apps that will allow you to do anything from playing Angry Birds to managing tasks to checking the weather. Chrome is super-fast, and the interface is pleasant and easy to use. Overall, it's one of the best browsers you can get!
Pros
- Lightning fast browsing!
- Great apps/add-ons from the Chrome Web Store
- Amazing balance between features and simplicity
Cons
- Not quite as good as Firefox for web development
- Security features sometimes warn/block clean content
Features
Chrome is probably the most flexible and fully featured browser out there. Google has been an innovator when it comes to web browsing from the start. They revolutionized search by combining the address bar with the search bar, and by making tabbed browsing so smooth and easy that switching to tabbed browsing was irresistible. Chrome definitely still gives the best tabbed browsing experience, as it provides a layout that allows for far more space than either Firefox or IE. Chrome gives you all the standard internet settings that you can tweak at will, and has also introduced Sync. With sync, you log in to Chrome using a google account on one computer, and when you login to Chrome with the same account on a different computer, all your settings, bookmarks, and even the tabs you had open will transfer to the new browser. You have many options on what to and what not to sync, so you can still keep some things customized for every computer if you want to. Sync is an amazing feature if you use multiple computers, as you'll never have to import/export bookmarks or other info again! Chrome also has an appstore full of all kinds of apps, add-ons, music, books, etc., and even allows you to see your apps on the startup/new tab page if you choose so. It also offers to show thumbnail previews of your most visited sites as the startup/new tab page if you prefer (and 1 click switching between the two views). On top of these great features, Chrome also carries the standards like bookmarks, RSS feeds, password manager, download manager, find, private browsing, autofill, automatic updates, zoom, spellcheck, and more. For most people, this will probably be the most fully featured browser, but if you're a developer, Mozilla's Firefox is more specialized in those tools.
Security
Chrome has security features to prevent spyware, viruses, pop-ups, and phishing. Google has recently upgraded its anti-malware platform and has started integrating it into Chrome, protecting users by warning them about suspicious sites, content, and software downloads. Chrome will stop the page from loading or the download from launching, and give you a warning stating that it believes there's something suspicious going on. Sandboxing also allows Chrome to isolate harmful activity to one tab, which will not be able to affect any other tabs, effectively quarantining the problem. And of course, Chrome also includes private browsing for when you do not want any of your browsing history, activities, searches, etc. to be saved. Like all the other browsers, Chrome also allows you to clear browsing history, cookies, searches, etc. without problems.
Speed & Compatibility
Google Chrome is the fastest browser we've come across. Startup time is great, and for browsing and loading web pages, Chrome is going to be your fastest browser, loading slightly faster than IE9 in almost every case. If you want to see how fast the internet can be, Chrome is the browser for you.
Google has worked very hard to get Chrome as compatible as they can make it. It has no problems on 99% of web pages, and can even view PDF's and flash right out of the box. There are a few sites that won't load correctly for Chrome, and some that look a little odd because they've been optimized for IE9 instead, but these cases are so rare you're unlikely to notice.
Ease of Use
Chrome has managed to blend form and function by giving you easy access to just about everything you want instant access to, and on the other hand by staying minimal and clean in appearance. Chrome by far has the best tabbed browsing experience, by allowing you to create an unlimited amount of tabs while still allowing easy access to them by shrinking each tab instead of turning to scrolling. Google Chrome also pioneered the technology of having the address bar double as a search bar, and we think they've figured out the most useable layout for everyday browsing. While IE might give you a better experience in how the internet/web pages look, Chrome gives the best overall balance between looks and functionality. The menu system for Chrome is easily understandable and the easiest to navigate out of the big 3 browsers. Chrome has a huge app-store with a wide variety of apps that add functionality or that are just for entertainment. The new tab page for Chrome is also the most flexible, allowing you to choose whether to show the apps you've installed or previews of your most visited websites.
Help & Support
Chrome has an extensive online help center that addresses most common issues that users run into. Some of the covered topics are installation, personalizing settings, how to use bookmarks, tabs, and windows, how to search, privacy/security settings, language and display settings, syncing, common questions/FAQs, and more. Chrome also has how-to videos on Youtube and a Chrome product forum, where you can search for topics others have posted, or where you can post your own question. Chrome has no direct phone or email support, but most questions can be answered in the help documentation or by posting in the forums.
